The panel has to fit, and a Drug Facts panel is long

What a sunscreen label has to carry
Active ingredients with their purpose, uses, warnings, directions, inactive ingredients, the SPF, broad spectrum if it qualifies, the water resistance statement if tested, and the Skin Cancer/Skin Aging Alert where it applies. That is a lot of prescribed content.
A repellent label is its own format again
A pesticide label has its own required content and conventions, and an exempt minimum risk product has specific conditions: actives with percentages, inerts by designated name, company contact prominently. Different shape, similar space problem.
The cosmetic is the easy one
Which is worth knowing when designing a range: three products in identical bottles may need very different label areas, and designing all three around the cosmetic is how the sunscreen artwork ends up unreadable.
Size for the hardest label in the range
Or accept different sizes for different products. A 50 ml travel sunscreen is a genuinely difficult label and it is the format people most want to offer.
The alert is not the text to shrink
A prescribed warning reduced to fit is the worst candidate for the type size sacrifice, for the same reason the supplement disclaimer is. If it does not fit legibly, the container is too small or the label needs a second surface.
Check the proof on the actual bottle
Printed at size and wrapped around the real container, read at arm’s length in ordinary light. On a curved 50 ml bottle that check catches problems no screen proof shows.
Plan the range around the hardest label
If a sunscreen and an aloe gel share packaging for economy, the sunscreen decides the size. Designing for the easy product and then discovering the drug panel does not fit is a reprint and a delay in the one season this category sells in.
