Davis Packaging and Containers is a registered assumed business name of Dwight Davis Consulting LLC, an Idaho limited liability company. The LLC is the controller of the personal information described here, at 999 W Main St, Ste 100, Boise, ID 83702, United States. Write to info@daviscontainers.com about anything on this page.
Our own record of how the site is used
We keep a record of which pages and products get looked at on this site. It lives in our own database, we send it to nobody, and it is not built into ads. It is how the catalog gets decided: which containers are worth stocking, which pages are worth writing, and where people give up.
This one is not optional, and we would rather say so than describe it as a choice you do not actually have. What it holds is the page, the product, a random identifier for your browser, the country your request came from, and whether you are on a phone or a computer. If you are signed in it is linked to your account, because the point of an account is that we can see your own orders and you can reorder them.
What it deliberately does not hold: your IP address, anything you type into a form, and any card detail. We keep it for 400 days and then it is deleted.
If you want yours removed, write to info@daviscontainers.com and we will delete it.
Measurement and advertising
Separately from the above, we send some of the same activity to Google and to advertising platforms. That part is gated behind your choice rather than run regardless, and the switches in the banner control it.
Measurement tells us which pages and products get looked at, where visitors come from and where they stop, so we know what to stock and what to write.
Advertising lets us see which ads led to an order, show our products again to people who looked at them, and build audiences of people who resemble our customers. In practice that means Google Analytics, Google Ads, and the conversion and remarketing tags of the advertising platforms we run campaigns on, including the major social and search networks.
Between them these collect pages viewed, products viewed, what went into a cart contents, device and browser, referring site, approximate location from your IP address, and whether an order was placed along with its value and reference. To match a conversion to an ad, some of them receive a hashed, irreversible form of your email address rather than the address itself. We may also provide hashed customer lists to those platforms so that our ads reach existing customers or avoid them, and so that the platforms can find audiences similar to them.
These tags are set by Google and the other platforms rather than by us, and those companies use what they collect under their own terms as well as ours.
You control this. In the United States, measurement and advertising are on by default and the banner lets you turn them off. Everywhere else they are off until you turn them on. Either way, nothing in either category loads before you have made a choice, and you can change it at any time through Cookie settings in the footer.
We do not use session replay or heatmap tools. Those work by sending a recording of your visit to another company, and we would rather answer the same question from our own record described above.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we have never provided it to a data broker. Sharing data with an advertising platform so that our own ads reach the right people is not the same thing, and it is described above rather than hidden behind this sentence. Some state laws define "sale" and "sharing" broadly enough to cover targeted advertising, and where they do, your right to opt out is the Reject button on the banner and the Cookie settings link in the footer.
We do not use what we learn to set different prices for different people.
Cookies, specifically
Two cookies are always present and neither tracks you. dc_geo holds a two-letter country code for 24 hours, and exists only so the cookie banner can show the right default. dc_consent records the choice you made, for 180 days, so we stop asking. Both are first-party and neither is shared.
Beyond those, the measurement and advertising tags described above set their own cookies, and only once you have allowed them.
Cloudflare, who serve this site, count page views for us from a cookieless endpoint that does not identify you. That runs whatever you choose, because it is how we know the site is working at all.
What we collect when you buy
To take an order and get it delivered we need, and ask for:
Your name, your email address and a telephone number. The phone number is not optional and it is not marketing. A freight carrier will not deliver a pallet without a contact number for the delivery.
Your company name and your purchase order number, if you use them. Both are optional and both exist because business buyers need them on the paperwork.
The delivery address, and whether it is residential. Delivery notes, if you write any.
Your billing address, which Stripe collects with your card and passes to us for the invoice.
If you have an account
An account is optional and you can buy without one. There is no password: we email you a six digit code, and we store that code and your sign-in session only as one-way hashes, so there is nothing readable to steal and nothing for us to reuse.
An account holds your company name, contact name and telephone number, the addresses you save, your order history, and whichever tax exemption certificates you have sent us. Orders you placed as a guest under the same email address are attached to the account when you first sign in, because the confirmation for each of them was already emailed to you.
Tax exemption certificates
If you buy for resale you can send us the certificate itself, with the issuing state and the permit number. We check the permit against that state's own register before it takes effect, because we carry the liability for accepting an invalid one.
The document is stored privately, not on the public site, and is readable only by us through links that expire after fifteen minutes. We keep it for as long as the exemption is claimed and for the period our records have to be kept afterwards.
Card details
We never see them. Payment is taken on Stripe's own checkout page, your card details go to Stripe and not to us, and what comes back to us is a confirmation that a payment succeeded, the card brand, and its last four digits. There is no card number in our systems to lose.
If you are signed in and tick the box, Stripe saves the card for your future orders. It is saved by Stripe, held by Stripe and shown by Stripe, and you manage or remove it on their pages through the Payment methods section of your account. We hold only an identifier that tells Stripe which customer you are. Leave the box unticked and nothing is saved.
What we store in your browser
Your cart, and the delivery details you typed into it, are kept in your own browser's local storage so that the cart survives a reload and you do not retype an address. They stay on your device. Clearing your browser data removes them.
These are not cookies and they are not sent to us except when you reprice a cart or place an order.
Who else sees your information, and why
Our fulfillment partner receives your name, delivery address and phone number, because they pick and ship the order and the carrier needs a contact.
Stripe processes the payment and holds the card.
Resend sends the order emails and holds the delivery record for them.
Google Cloud hosts the application and the database, in the United States.
Cloudflare serves the site and counts page views.
Google, and the advertising platforms we run campaigns on, receive the measurement and advertising data described above, but only where you have allowed it. They never receive your order details, your address or your phone number.
That is the complete list. We do not share, sell, rent or trade your information with anyone else.
Where it lives and how long
The database is in Google Cloud, region us-central1, in the United States.
We keep order records for seven years, because a sale, the tax on it and any warranty question all have tails and the records have to be there to answer them.
We keep quote requests for two years.
We keep our own record of how the site is used for 400 days, which is long enough to see a full year in a trade that reorders by the season and short enough that it is not a permanent record of anyone's browsing.
Account sign-in codes expire in fifteen minutes and sessions in thirty days.
Server logs are kept for thirty days.
Your choices
Write to info@daviscontainers.com and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. Order records we have to keep for tax purposes are the exception, and we will say so rather than quietly keeping them.
Idaho has no general consumer privacy statute. If you are in California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah or another state with one, exercise your rights the same way, by writing to us, and we will honor them regardless of where you live. We do not sell personal information under any of those definitions.
Children
This is a wholesale packaging business. The site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. The database is not reachable from the public internet. Card data never enters our systems. Access to the order database is limited to the people who have to pick and support orders.
No system is perfect and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. If we ever have a breach affecting your information, we will tell you.
Changes
If we change this page we will change the date at the top. If a change is material, meaning it affects what we collect or who we share it with, we will say so on the site rather than leave you to notice.
