Shipping and freight

Where it ships from
Orders ship from our supplier's warehouse rather than from us. That is how we can hold two thousand lines without a building full of stock, and it is why the freight quote you see is a real carrier rate rather than our guess at one.
How freight is priced
When you enter your delivery ZIP code in the cart, we ask the carrier what it costs to send that exact cart to that exact ZIP code, and we show you the number that comes back.
We pass it through at cost. We do not mark freight up, and we do not use it to subsidize the product price.
Sometimes the carrier will not give us a rate, for a ZIP code it does not quote or because its service is unavailable at the moment you check out. In that case we charge an estimate based on the size of the order and confirm it before dispatch. It is labeled as an estimate when that happens, so you can tell the two apart.
You will see the freight before you pay. There is no stage where a number appears afterwards.
Freight can be a large share of a small order
Packaging is bulky and light, which is the worst combination for freight pricing. On a small order the freight can approach or exceed the value of the goods, and on a long haul it can be several times the goods value. That is not a pricing error on our part, it is what it costs to move air in boxes across the country.
Two things reduce it, and both are worth knowing. Ordering full cases rather than part cases improves the ratio considerably. And ordering more at once spreads a freight cost that does not rise in proportion to the quantity.
If the freight on a quote looks wrong to you, tell us before you pay. Sometimes there is a better way to ship it.
Small order fee
Our supplier applies a small order fee on some low value orders. Where it applies, it is included in the freight line you see at checkout and we say so on the line. We do not add a handling fee of our own.
Residential delivery
Tick the residential box in the cart if that is where it is going.
Freight carriers charge more for residential delivery than for a commercial address with a loading dock, and on a larger shipment they may need a liftgate because there is no dock to lower it onto. If you tell us up front we quote it properly. If a shipment booked as commercial turns out to be residential, the carrier bills the difference and we have to pass that on.
Delivery timing
We do not promise a delivery date, because the handoff to the carrier is not ours to control and a date we cannot keep is worse than no date.
What we do is tell you when it leaves. In practice most orders leave the warehouse within one to three business days, and transit is then whatever the carrier takes for the distance.
If you need something by a specific date, ask before you order. Sometimes it is possible and sometimes it honestly is not, and we would rather say so.
Where we ship
Anywhere in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. There is no contiguous-states restriction. Freight to Alaska or Hawaii is quoted the same way as anywhere else, which is to say it is real and it is often large.
We do not ship internationally at present.
Split shipments
A single order can be filled from more than one warehouse, in which case it arrives in more than one delivery. We quote the freight for the whole order either way, so a split does not cost you more than you were shown.
Addresses
The address you enter at checkout is the address we ship to, exactly as you entered it.
Check it. An address correction after dispatch is charged by the carrier and we have to pass that on, and a package delivered to a wrong address you supplied is not a claim we can make on your behalf.
When it leaves
We email you when the order dispatches. If you have a question about an order in flight, reply to any email we have sent you or write to info@daviscontainers.com, or call (208) 806-8367, with your order reference.
