A sorted set wants a dozen jars
On this page11
Hardware sorts by a number, and the number has several values
Shelf pins come at five, six and seven millimeters. Picture hangers come in several weight ratings. Furniture glides sort by diameter. Each of those is a separate jar if the set is to be useful.
So the natural order for this group is several identical containers
Somewhere between six and a dozen, depending on how many values the bench actually keeps. One large jar of mixed pins is the thing a sorted set exists to replace.
Which is an awkward quantity against this shelf
The median container case on this shelf is 288. Six rows of 251 come in a case of 24 or fewer, and four of those six are a case of exactly twelve.
The four twelve-packs are all glass and all clear
A 16 oz clear glass mason and paragon jar, a 4 oz clear glass hex jar, an 8 oz clear glass mason and paragon jar and a 9 oz clear glass hex jar. From 118 to 473 mL.
The other two small cases are also glass
A 16 oz amber glass straight sided jar in a case of 20 and a 1.5 oz clear glass hex jar in a case of 24. So every small case on this shelf is glass without exception.
And every one of the six is full case only
Which is not the restriction it sounds like here. A case of twelve is already the quantity a sorted hardware set wants, so being unable to break the case costs nothing.
The prices are at the top of the shelf and that is the trade
Those six run 90 to 369 cents at single prices and 73 to 265 at case prices, against a shelf-wide container median of 90.5 and 66. Glass is dearer and the small case does not discount as a large one does.
The next smallest case on the shelf is sixty
Which is a sharp step. Between twenty four and sixty there is nothing at all, so a buyer wanting twenty identical jars is choosing between a case of twelve, two of them, or a case of sixty.
For a workshop that is usually a straightforward decision
A dozen glass jars of a common size is a sensible bench set, and the four rows at a case of twelve are exactly that. The plastic side of the shelf is for the buyer who wants two hundred and eighty eight.
And the sorting information has to go on the container
A shelf pin does not carry its diameter and a picture hanger does not carry its rating. Whatever the packet said is lost when the packet goes, so the jar becomes the only record of which value is inside it.
