Sixteen articles, one container question
On this page14
The group is one leaf with sixteen named articles
Electrical small part, covering butt connectors, cable clips, crimp terminals, diodes, ferrules, two fuse types, heat shrink, LEDs, resistors, ring terminals, solder pellets, spade terminals, splice caps, toggle switches and wire nuts.
Which is a wide range of sizes
A solder pellet is a few millimetres and a toggle switch is a couple of centimetres with a threaded bush.
So the proportional standard does real work
As the nature of the article will permit. The same clause reaches both ends of that range and asks different things of each.
The deformed articles are the interesting ones
Crimp terminals, ring terminals, spade terminals and ferrules are all crushed in use, so a mark applied before may not survive after.
And heat shrink changes dimension
A mark sized before shrinking is a smaller mark afterwards, which is a legibility failure without an indelibility failure.
Which separates two of the three adverbs
The mark survived and stopped being readable. Permanence and legibility are not the same requirement.
The colour-coded articles already carry information
A wire nut and a splice cap are moulded in a colour that encodes a wire range, and a resistor carries value bands.
So their surface is already in use
Which is a practical argument for the container route rather than a legal one.
A glass fuse is the clearest case
Its only markable surfaces are the two metal end caps, and the rating is already printed on one of them.
The container question is the same for all sixteen
A small quantity of small parts, kept sorted, in a jar that can carry a label. Which is what a 251 container shelf of jars provides.
210 of the 251 containers are jars
With 27 bottles, 12 tubs and pails and 2 tubes. A jar is the right format for parts picked out by hand.
And the capacity range is 5 to 500 mL
With a median of 177. For a hundred resistors or a dozen wire nuts, both ends are useful.
The marking question is what makes the material choice matter
Which is the next section and the one axis of this shelf that bears on the spine.
