Getting started

A candle in a PET jar

On this page15
The heat source is inside the container.

One of the four leaves is a candle

Candle emergency. A wick in a wax fill, burning inside the container for hours at a time.

Which makes the container part of the burning system

Not a vessel around a product. The wall gets hot above the melt pool and the base gets hot under it.

123 of the 208 containers here are PET single wall jars

Which is 59 percent of the shelf, and PET is the material with the lowest thermal ceiling in the catalog.

And 146 of 208 have a ceiling of 120 F

A candle glass runs far above that. 120 F is a warm day.

So the commonest container on this shelf is wrong for one leaf

Stated plainly, because a PET jar is clear and cheap and looks exactly like a candle jar.

There are 30 glass containers

18 glass straight sided jars, 7 glass mason and paragon jars and 5 glass boston rounds. Which is where a candle belongs.

And 33 containers rated to 300 F

The group with real thermal headroom. Those are the ones to ask about for anything involving a flame.

Nothing here says any of them is suitable for a candle

A temperature rating is not a candle suitability claim, and only a manufacturer makes one. The meal prep property makes the same point about microwaves.

There is a whole separate group for candles

Candles and home fragrance, with its own shelf and its own archetype. This group's candle leaf did not get it.

Which is the routing observation

A candle emergency leaf sitting under store-humidity, an archetype built for keeping things dry, produced a dry-storage shelf.

And store-humidity is right for the other three leaves

Fuel tab, tinder storage and waterproof match are all things kept dry. The archetype serves three of four.

So the candle is the odd leaf in its own group

Which is worth knowing before browsing 208 containers for one.

And an emergency candle is a long burn

Which is the leaf, not a dinner candle. A container held near its thermal limit for hours is a different proposition from one warmed briefly, and duration is absent from the rating field.

The honest answer is the glass and the 300 F group

Or the candles and home fragrance shelf, which was built for it.

The Davis Pack Supply catalog, measured 19 October 2026. 123 of the 208 containers in this group are PET single wall jars and 146 of the 208 have a temperature ceiling of 120 F. A candle heats its own container from the inside, at the wick and along the wall above the melt pool. The 33 containers rated to 300 F and the 30 glass containers are the ones with any thermal headroom. The candles and home fragrance group is a separate group with its own shelf; this group's candle emergency leaf resolves to the store-humidity archetype instead.
The Davis Pack Supply catalog, measured 19 October 2026. A temperature range is published on all 208 containers in this group and takes three values: -40 to 120 F on 146 containers, -100 to 300 F on 33, and -100 to 190 F on 29. A container temperature rating describes what the container tolerates. It is not a flashpoint, it is not a flammability statement, and it has no bearing on whether contents will ignite.

Written from 16 CFR 1500.3(c)(6) and from the catalog as it stood on 19 October 2026. Those definitions describe a substance and say nothing about a container: a flashpoint is the temperature at which a liquid gives off enough vapor to ignite and a container temperature rating is what the container tolerates, so a container can be inside its rating while its contents are above their flashpoint. Nothing here says whether any product is a hazardous substance, what labeling it requires, or whether any container is suitable for a candle, a fuel or a flame. The test method cited in the definitions is not described.
