Beads and floss pull in opposite directions
On this page11
Seed beads are small, heavy for their size, and they roll
A size 11 seed bead is under two millimeters. A few thousand of them weigh enough to make a small jar feel solid, and they find every gap in a closure that does not seat.
So the bead requirement is a mouth and a seal
Wide enough to pour from without a funnel, and a lid that closes properly rather than a press fit that can be knocked loose in a bag.
Floss is the opposite case in almost every respect
Light, bulky for its weight, and it does not pour. A skein has to be picked out individually, which means the hand has to reach the bottom.
Which rules out the tall narrow end of this shelf for floss
Eighteen containers reach a height-to-diameter ratio of 2 and three reach 3. The tallest is 6.745 inches by 1.95. Reaching the bottom of that for a single skein is not a usable action.
And it recommends the flattest end
Ten containers sit at a ratio of 0.5 or below. The flattest are polypropylene round tubs at 1.5 by 4.5 inches, where every skein is visible and reachable without moving the others.
The same flat end is wrong for beads
A 4.5 inch tub with a 1.5 inch wall gives beads a large area to spread across and a low wall to escape over. Beads prefer a container they fill.
Needles add a third requirement that neither shares
Height, and specifically interior depth. 121 of the 237 containers that record a height reach 2.5 inches outside, and the usable depth is less than that.
Hoop hardware is closest to beads but without the rolling
Short metal parts, a wide mouth to pick from, and no particular need for a tight seal because nothing will escape a lid that is merely closed.
So the honest answer for this group is more than one container
Which is the normal answer on this shelf anyway, because the case pack means a buyer is choosing a quantity of one size rather than a single jar, and the sewing notions property sets out what those quantities are.
And it is a shape decision in every case
Not a capacity decision. The ratio pages measure the shelf on exactly that axis because it is the one the four leaves actually test.
