Granular and amendments

On this page9
A granular product is scooped, which makes the mouth the whole specification.

What is here

Granular fertilizer and soil amendment. Two leaves on the bulk granular archetype: 500 to 8000 mL, wide mouth, scooped by weight.

The archetype had no process default until recently

It inherited a blanket fallback that described a thin poured liquid. It now says what its own note always said: chunky, solid and scooped. Corrected 18 October 2026.

Which changes the shelf it draws

A scooped product requires a wide mouth, and that excludes the narrow Boston rounds and cosmo bullets a thin-liquid rule would have allowed. The containers that remain are the ones you can get a scoop into.

The shelf is thin at this size

42 containers at a litre or more across the whole use case. For a bulk granular product that is a short list, and a bag is the format most of this category actually uses.

Why a rigid container at all

Resealability and moisture. A granular fertilizer that cakes is ruined, and a bag that has been opened and rolled shut does not keep humidity out the way a lidded tub does.

Weight, not volume

Granular products settle and vary in bulk density. Fill by weight, declare by weight in avoirdupois pounds and ounces as the regulation requires for a solid, and expect the container to look less full on arrival.

Dust at the fill

Dust on a sealing surface turns a good seal into a bad one. Wipe the rim before the lid goes on and build it into the process rather than the work instructions.

And most of these are fertilizers

Which puts them in the state registration world rather than the federal pesticide one, unless a control claim is added. The packaging standards in this property follow the pesticide classification, not the format.

The Davis Pack Supply catalog, measured 18 October 2026. The growing inputs shelf is 1,075 rows: 579 containers and 496 closures, derived from three packaging archetypes across nine leaves. 276 PET, 203 HDPE, 85 glass, 14 PP and 1 LDPE, from 10 to 9,464 mL with a median of 125 and 42 containers at 1 litre or more. The closures include 30 child resistant, 19 trigger sprayers and 18 spouted.
40 CFR 156.10, general labeling requirements for pesticides. The label carries the name, brand or trademark; the name and address of the producer or registrant; the net contents; the EPA registration number; the EPA establishment number; the ingredient statement; hazard and precautionary statements; directions for use; and the use classification. Required text must be "clearly legible to a person with normal vision", set in 6-point or larger type, on a clear contrasting background, not obscured or crowded, and placed so as "to render it likely to be read and understood by the ordinary individual under customary conditions of purchase and use". The ingredient statement is normally required on the front panel. law.cornell.edu
Written from 40 CFR 156.10, 165.25 and 157.22, and from the catalog as it stood on 18 October 2026. A pesticide may not be distributed or sold in the United States unless it is registered, and the label is approved as part of that registration; nothing here is a substitute for EPA guidance on a specific product, and whether a given product is a pesticide at all is a determination with consequences.
