Containers

Two materials and nine

On this page11
Containers: PET and glass. Closures: nine materials, 190 of them polypropylene.

The container side of this shelf records two materials

Eighty three PET and 24 glass. Which is the narrowest material list of any shelf described across this library, where three is the usual figure and the catalog as a whole runs to twenty seven values.

The closure side records nine

190 polypropylene, 37 metal, 6 urea, 4 PET, 3 recorded as plastic and metal, 2 as plastic, 2 HDPE, 1 phenolic and 1 as metal and polypropylene.

So the gap between the two sides is as wide as it gets anywhere here

Two against nine. The personal small items shelf is three against eight, and every other shelf is closer than that.

And the material excluded from every container is the one almost every lid is

Polypropylene appears on no container on this shelf and on 190 of the 246 closures. Which is a genuine oddity and it has a straightforward explanation.

A lid is small, it is held briefly, and it is usually covered

Whatever a gift jar is finished with sits on top of the closure. So a material judged unsuitable for the visible body of a container is perfectly acceptable for the part nobody looks at.

Which is the same observation the quilting property makes from the other side

There the closure liner is the surface nobody looks at and it carries twelve different values. Here the closure material is the field nobody looks at and it carries nine.

Two of the nine are composite values rather than materials

Plastic and metal, and metal and polypropylene. Those describe a part made of two things, and a filter matching metal exactly returns 37 rows and drops the four that are partly metal.

And two rows read simply plastic, which is a category

A row reading plastic says less than a row reading polypropylene, and the two sit in the same column as though they were the same kind of answer. The personal small items property makes the same point on a neighboring shelf.

Phenolic appears once and it is the rarest value on this shelf

A thermoset used for caps that need heat resistance and a hard finish. One row of 246, which is the kind of option found only by enumerating the column to the end rather than filtering it.

The closure to container ratio is 2.30 to one

246 closures for 107 containers. Which is the second highest in this library after the personal small items shelf at 2.64, and it comes from the same cause: a narrow container list and a closure list that was not narrowed with it.

The Davis Pack Supply catalog, measured 19 October 2026. The 107 containers on this shelf record two materials, 83 PET and 24 glass. The 246 closures record nine: 190 polypropylene, 37 metal, 6 urea, 4 PET, 3 plastic and metal, 2 plastic, 2 HDPE, 1 phenolic and 1 metal and polypropylene. Closure families run to nine, led by 169 continuous thread polypropylene lids, 39 metal or aluminum CT caps, 22 PP dome lids and 8 sealing discs. The ratio of closures to containers is 2.30 to one. Eight container colors appear, led by 47 clear, 21 amber, 10 blue, 9 white and 8 black. Ten container families, led by PET Single Wall Jar at 76 and glass straight sided jar at 14. Case packs run 12 to 6,370 with a median of 330, and prices 30 to 705 cents with a median of 86. Availability, a snapshot and not a promise: 69 of 107 marked available and 38 not.
The Davis Pack Supply catalog, measured 19 October 2026. This group draws on 107 containers, a strict subset of the 251 that nine groups share identically, with no rows of its own, so 144 rows are excluded. By material the base shelf holds 117 PET, 78 polypropylene and 56 glass; this shelf keeps 83 of the PET and 24 of the glass and none of the polypropylene. All 78 polypropylene rows are excluded without exception. Every tub, pail and tube is excluded as well, 12 and 2 respectively, leaving 99 jars and 8 bottles from four categories on the base shelf. And all 24 rows recorded as Natural are excluded, which follows, because Natural denotes unpigmented polypropylene. Nothing in the record states a reason for any exclusion.
Written from 16 CFR part 323 and from the catalog as it stood on 19 October 2026. Part 323 is the Made in USA Labeling Rule and it governs an unqualified claim of United States origin; it imposes no labeling requirement on anybody who makes no such claim, and it does not reach any container on this shelf. The catalog records no country of origin for any product, so nothing here states the origin of anything or whether any product may be labeled Made in the USA. Nothing here is advice about origin claims or advertising. This shelf is a subset of the store-small-dry shelf and the sewing notions property enumerates that shelf in full.
