The shelf, by material

On this page9
The shape of this shelf is what a craft looks like when chemical resistance decides first.

What is here

664 rows: 234 containers and 430 closures, derived from two archetypes across six leaves. Capacities from 5 to 946 mL with a median of 118.

By material

143 HDPE, 50 polypropylene, 31 glass, 9 steel and 1 LDPE. Compare that with almost any other shelf on this site, where PET leads, and the difference is the resin chart doing its job.

By family

27 PE cylinder rounds, 23 HDPE packers, 18 PE imperial bullet cosmos, 16 more PE cylinder rounds, 16 PP round tubs, 15 more HDPE packers, 14 glass Boston rounds and 11 PP single wall jars.

The packer is the workhorse

A straight-sided bottle with a wide shoulder and a wide mouth, in opaque HDPE. It fills easily, it pours without glugging, it takes a brush cap or a spouted closure, and it looks like what it is.

The round tub is for the thick end

16 PP round tubs for a decoupage medium or a wax finish, where the product is taken out on a brush or a cloth rather than poured. Those are the leaves whose dispensing is scoop rather than pour, and the shelf reflects it.

Two archetypes, two size bands

The adhesive and finish products sit in a 50 to 1000 mL window. Wax finish sits in a 5 to 70 mL window on the small tin archetype, which is a genuinely different product sold in a genuinely different container.

The median says more than the range

118 mL. This is not a bulk category at the point of sale. It is a craft where people buy a modest container of something specific, use it on a project, and come back.

What to shop it by

Material first, from the chart. Then neck finish, because that decides both the applicator and whether a child resistant option exists. Size last, because by then the field is small enough to see.

The Davis Pack Supply resin chart, derived from C&P’s own published ratings across 2,150 SKUs and held as
material_property
: chemical resistance and a service temperature range per material. Glass rates High at 5 of 5 and runs -100 to 300F; PP, HDPE, PET, LDPE, PVC, phenolic and urea rate Good at 4 of 5; PS rates Semi at 2 of 5. The temperature ranges differ sharply even within the same rating, PET topping out at 120F against HDPE’s 190F and PP’s 240F.

Whether a particular product is an art material, what its chronic hazard labeling should say, and whether its closure must be child resistant are determinations about a specific formula; the first of those is a question for a toxicologist by regulation, and nothing here substitutes for one.
